Dear Friend,

To say these are unprecedented times feels like a gross understatement.

Early on the morning of Nov. 17, in the rural communities in Tola, Nicaragua where CREA is located, Hurricane Iota, classified as a Category 4 by the time it made landfall, brought intense rains, winds, thunder, and severe flooding.

This hurricane, the second one to hit Nicaragua this month after Hurricane Eta two weeks ago, is greatly affecting the people and local communities we work with each day – children, adolescents, families – people who have goals, hopes, and dreams. Many are now isolated by the swollen rivers, destruction, and lack of electricity.

The CREA community has always shown up and I ask you to please show up again by making a gift to assist in immediate recovery efforts.

Here is how your gift will be utilized:

    • To assist individuals and organizations in Nicaragua that are set-up and ready to go with emergency relief. This includes providing staples such as food, water, diapers, medicines, and rebuilding.
    • To assist in clean-up to get the CREA Center open quickly and safely for children and adolescents to have a safe place to go, given the horror of this Hurricane. The CREA Center will also be used as point to organize materials and supplies for relief.
    • Testing the water of CREA’s artesian well as quickly as possible to provide clean drinking water as many household wells will surely have been contaminated.

We learned after Tropical Storm Nate in 2017 that our strengths lie in the ability to collaborate quickly with partner individuals and organizations as well as focus on the well-being of children and adolescents that rely on CREA not only for education and literacy support, but so much more.

We will get through this. I am so incredibly grateful for each and everyone of you.

As always, I’ll keep you updated as the situation evolves.

Stay safe. Stay healthy.

Un abrazo virtual,

Corrie Burdett
